Darin, what kind of practice do you have?
I'm a partner and I practice mostly in Intellectual Property, Business, and Commercial litigation
What size is your practice and how many employees do you have?
We are a medium size firm with approximately 20 employees
What technical setup do you have at your office (number of machines, etc)?
We have 2 copiers, 11 printers, 1 fax machine, and 21 Mac computers.
What suggestions do you have for people using technology in their practice?
Make sure whatever you are doing with technology is easy to learn and use. This willreduce overhead costs dramatically.
What bag of tricks or software do you use the most in your practice?
We only use Apple Computers, programs adapted for Mac Computers and bill tracking software. We find Spotlight in Leopard to be a real time saver. We do not have typical problems most Windows PC users may have because we are a Mac only firm.
Is there a special feature in any of the packages that you like the most?
Mac programs tend to be the same look and feel from one to another, so the learning curve of each program is easy.
What trends do you see in legal technology?
I see more growth in document management products and software to enable legal research.
What technical challenges to do you face in your practice?
The biggest challenge we have is managing voluminous electronic files collections.
What Clarity Legal Software products do you use?
DepoSmart™ and TrialSmart™ - our court reporters use Bundler™.
What Clarity Legal Software product feature do you like best?
Both are easy to understand and it didn't take anytime for us to begin using them. We didn't need any training whatsoever. We use TrialSmart™ for all of our trials and hearings and we've never used an outside consultant, we do it all in-house with a paralegal. We love the real-time capabilities of DepoSmart™ on the Mac. It's actually fun to do realtime now.
