We practice Civil litigation.

We currently are a small firm with 2 lawyers, 6 support staff (paralegals, secretaries, Legal Nurse Consultant).

At McLeod & Heinrichs we run a Leopard Server on X-Server, about 10 macs all running Leopard, and one or 2 PC's for voice mail and other specialized applications.

What suggestions do you have for people using technology in their practice?
See my article in the Missouri Trial Attorney Magazine, Winter 2005 “Top Ten Reasons to Use Technology in Your Law Practice."

What bag of tricks or software do you use the most in your practice?
FileMaker Pro for data analysis and many administrative tasks.

Is there a special feature in any of the packages that you like the most?
Mac programs tend to be the same look and feel from one to another, so the learning curve of each program is easy.

What advantages do you have over your competition as a result of the way you employ technology in your practice?
We are like the armored cavalry - small, fast and powerful.

What trends do you see in legal technology?
At least on the Mac platform, more independence for users: we don't need an IT guy to hook up a printer or be sure our files are backed up.

What technical challenges to do you face in your practice?
As we rely on electronically stored information more, we also need better backup, better indexing, and constant access to fast internet connections.

What Clarity Legal Software products do you use?
DepoSmart and TrialSmart - I'd like more court reporters to start using Bundler.

What Clarity Legal Software product feature do you like best?
The trial presentation capabilities of TrialSmart are amazing - editing on the fly, idiot-proof presentation, clean look and feel. The days of having a technician sitting in a courtroom for a week just to play your videos are gone - and good riddance!
